Join us at Wolf Trap for an evening of songs, poems, and riffs on some of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters. Berlioz and the Beatles spotlight Ophelia in Hamlet; Clara Schumann, Kurt Weill, and Stephen Sondheim illuminate characters in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The story of the star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet is told through lyrics by Francesco Cavalli and Roger Quilter, and befuddled Beatrice and Benedict become “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered!” So don’t protest too much; get thee to the Barns for a classic evening of demythified Elizabethan splendor!

SEFoS’ second annual presentation as an Coca-Cola Ensemble-In-Residence at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ever need to just get away? It’s human nature to unleash the imagination in dreams, to flee situations of danger, trouble and oppression, to be intrigued by people and places which lift us from our mundane experience, and to ponder life’s path even as our own hastens along at a clip…

In a program inspired by these multi-layered compulsions for the unknown, the Southeastern Festival of Song presents The Great Escape. Singers Jennifer Aylmer, Marie Lenormand, Brian Stucki and Jason Hardy, and pianist Kathleen Kelly will be joined by special guests to offer an evening of songs spanning many styles, moods, and themes drawing from the twists and turns of escape routes great and small. The concert will include works by Schubert, Schumann, Debussy, Britten, Poulenc, Wolf and Vaughan Williams, as well as music from Berlin, Springsteen, Simon, and the Beatles.

So put the pedal to the metal and lose yourself in beauty and humor, poignancy and passion as the Southestern Festival of Song revs up for The Great Escape!

featuring:
Jennifer Aylmer, soprano
